Amazon Introduces Prescription Drug Vending Machines at One Medical Locations

Oct 08, 2025 (PRISM News via COMTEX) --

Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) is set to revolutionize the pharmacy experience with the launch of its new “pharmacy kiosks,” self-service vending machines that will dispense prescription medications directly at One Medical offices. The rollout begins this December, offering patients a convenient alternative to traditional brick-and-mortar pharmacies.

Initially, the kiosks will be available at select One Medical locations in Southern California, including downtown Los Angeles, West LA, Beverly Hills, Long Beach, and West Hollywood. Amazon plans to expand the service to additional One Medical offices nationwide in 2026.

“Over time, we see real potential for this technology to extend to other environments -- anywhere quick access to medication can make a difference,” an Amazon spokesperson shared via email.

The automated kiosks will stock hundreds of commonly prescribed medications, such as antibiotics, inhalers, and blood pressure treatments. Seasonal medications, including flu and allergy remedies, will also be available. Patients can pick up their prescriptions within minutes of their appointment by scanning a QR code from the Amazon app.

Hannah McClellan, Amazon Pharmacy's vice president of operations, emphasized the importance of this innovation: “We know that when patients have to make a separate stop after seeing their doctor, many prescriptions never get filled. By bringing the pharmacy directly to the point of care, we’re removing a critical barrier and helping patients start their treatment when it matters most--right away.”

To use the kiosks, patients must first create an Amazon Pharmacy account and schedule an appointment at a participating One Medical location. After their provider sends the prescription to Amazon Pharmacy, patients can pay for their medication through the Amazon app and retrieve it from the kiosk.

Amazon Pharmacy, launched in 2020, allows users to order medications and refills online for home delivery. The company's acquisition of One Medical in February 2023 further solidified its presence in the healthcare space, paving the way for innovations like the pharmacy kiosks.

With this new initiative, Amazon continues to blur the lines between healthcare and technology, aiming to make prescription fulfillment faster and more accessible for patients.
