On January 2, 2025 Hindenburg Research published a report concerning Carvana (the “Hindenburg Report”). The Hindenburg Report alleges its research “uncovered $800 million in loan sales to a suspected undisclosed related party, along with details on how accounting manipulation and lax underwriting have fueled temporary reported income growth – all while insiders cash out billions in stock.” Hindenburg Report states that the report is the product of an “extensive document review and 49 interviews with industry experts, former Carvana employees, competitors and related parties of the company, undertaken over the course of 4 months” and that “the company is subject to an undisclosed SEC investigation, per Disclosure Insight, a Freedom of Information Act intelligence firm.”
On January 2, 2025, the price of Carvana stock fell $3.80 per share, nearly 2%, to close at $199.56 per share.
