NRx Receives FDA Labeling Review Letter Ahead of November Goal Date for Preservative-Free Ketamine
NRx Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: NRXP), a biopharmaceutical company focused on neuroplastic therapies for depression, PTSD and related conditions, announced on October 15, 2026 that it received a Discipline Review Letter from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration requesting minor changes to the submitted label for its preservative-free ketamine product. The product is under review through an Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) with a GDUFA goal date of November 10, 2026.
What the FDA Asked For
According to the company, the letter requests that NRx submit sample labeling using the proposed proprietary product name, which is currently under review, in advance of the November 10 goal date. NRx did not disclose the proposed name. The company said it is completing final manufacturing process validation runs to meet product launch requirements, and it did not give a launch date.
“We at NRx deeply appreciate the engagement of the FDA Office of Generic Drugs and their focus on completing review of our product by the GDUFA goal date,” said Jonathan Javitt, MD, MPH, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. He added that “American hospitals and doctors have been plagued by repeated shortages of this critically important drug,” and that the company looks forward to “demonstrating that manufacture of drugs such as this can successfully be re-shored to the United States.”
How the Review Has Progressed
NRx filed the ANDA in September 2025. In April 2026, the company reported a Discipline Review Letter covering drug substance, drug product, manufacturing and microbiology, with changes it described as minor. In early August, an 8-K filing disclosed that the FDA had identified one major deficiency related to the container closure system, specifically whether the vial’s twist-off cap could deform during use. In September, NRx said the related amendment had been reclassified from major to minor, and the FDA revised the goal date to November 10, 2026.
The product connects to a broader effort by the company. In August 2025, NRx filed a citizen petition seeking the removal of the preservative benzethonium chloride from all forms of ketamine sold in the United States.
Pipeline and Financial Position
Beyond the generic product, NRx is developing NRX-100, a preservative-free intravenous ketamine with Fast Track Designation for suicidal ideation in depression, and NRX-101, an oral combination of D-cycloserine and lurasidone with Breakthrough Therapy Designation for suicidal bipolar depression. Its majority-owned subsidiary, HOPE Therapeutics, operates psychiatric and neurological care clinics in Florida.
For the second quarter of 2026, NRx reported a net loss of $16.5 million and net patient service revenue of $1.1 million. Cash and cash equivalents were $26.7 million as of June 30, 2026, up from $7.8 million at the end of 2025, with a working capital deficit of $4.7 million. The company said it anticipates its cash on hand is sufficient to fund drug development operations through at least the first quarter of 2027, and its 10-Q states that substantial doubt exists about its ability to continue as a going concern for at least twelve months.
